Activities developed during 2007-Objectives

Activities developed during 2007 are based on the objectives of the action plan drafted by Managing Board of DSK in March 2007

Main objectives of action plan for 2007

  • Mobilizing the community of people affected with Down Syndrome
  • Creation of database for people affected by Down Syndrome
  • Raising awareness among parents, institutions and society in general
  • Raising awareness of parents, decision-making institutions and society in general, about people affected by DS
  • Information and education of young parents who have children affected by DS; overcoming difficulties that arise in their lives.
  • Advocating in local institutions in order to achieve better conditions in the field of education, and health, as well as to enhance the implementation of laws which have been previously adopted by relevant institutions so people affected by DS can achieve complete integration in the society.
  • Supporting local institutions and NGO’s that develop projects that help people affected by DS.
  • Establishment of centers for people affected by DS and for people with special needs, for information, counseling, education, training and other activities

Activities developed during 2007

  • Media campaign, February-March 2007
  • Celebrating World Day of Down Syndrome on 21/03/2007. (For the first time in Kosovo)
  • Visits done in order to establish training and rehab center for people affected by Down Syndrome.
  • Visit of the delegation of NGO DSK in Down Syndrome Centre in Pula- DSC, Croatia, on 23-26 April 2007. The delegation was hosted by DSC coordinator of “edsa” for Croatia, Minister of Health and Social Issues Mr. Neven Berkariq, representatives of Albanian Community in region of Istria and the Rector of University of Pula.
  • Visit of the delegation of Croatia, the Director dr md. Branka Butorac, Coordinator of “edsa” for Croatia and representatives of Albanian Community, on 18-23 june 2007. Delegation was hosted by Prime Minister Mr. Agim Çeku, Minister of Work and Social Welfare, Mr Ibrahim Selmanaj, Minister of Health Mr. Sadik Idriz.
  • Creation of partnership:
  • Memorandum of cooperation with Clinical and University Center in Pristina, 23 June 2007
  • Memorandum of cooperation with NGO HandiKos, July, 2007
  • Memorandum of cooperation with Down Syndrome Centar Pula-DSC, Republic of Croatia, July 2007
  • Memorandum of cooperation with NGO Mother Theresa, September,2007
  • Project developed for training and rehabilitation for twelve mothers with children as well as for educators in DSC Pula, Croatia 16-27 July 2007
  • Organization of exhibition of Gresa Hoxha -01 to 05 September 2007, in Albanological Institute, Prishtina
  • Implemented project “Who am I”, supported by USAID and IREX through ATRC, (September 2007-January 2008), Project for mobilizations of community of people affected with Down Syndrome;

Activities: Meeting with parents (3) with 187 participants, Lectures (5) with 216 participants (Doctors, specialists, students in CUC), tv shows broadcasted (RTV 21), 4 radio shows on the radio (Blu sky),

1 Project “Step I” , supported by KFOS (Kosovo Foundation for Open Society). Project for creation of partnership with countries of EU;

Activities: Participation in International Congress for Down Syndrome, in Pula , Croatia. Establishment of partnership in progress with organizations: DSC Pula; Down syndrome Ireland; Down’s Syndrome Association UK; T.I.R.E France; Tri 21 Belgium; Associazione Italia Persone Down, Roma, Italy.

  • Participation in International Congress for Down Syndrome, Pula, Croatia. October, 11-14
  • Membership in progress with European Down syndrome association ”edsa”
  • Establishment of Down Center, resource center for individuals affected with DS, parents and professionals 30/12/2007, Prishtina, Center which is financially supported by parents who’s children are affected with down Syndrome
  • Compiling of Strategy Plan for 2008/2010. January 2008
